Set on a full flat acre, this remarkable Brentwood Modern Belgian Farmhouse was built from amended plans by Howard Backen of Backen, Gilliam & Kroeger. The architectural design, coupled with interiors by an internationally noted designer, is the perfect setting for a countryside retreat in the heart of the city. All buildings of the compound were constructed of authentic reclaimed materials specifically sourced for the project. The four-bedroom, five-bath residence comprises a sweeping 7,800 square feet of expansive indoor and outdoor space. Dramatic floor-to-ceiling steel and glass doors open to a broad outdoor entertaining loggia with dining hall and outdoor kitchen with wood-burning pizza oven. The main residence and stables surround a focal point of the compound – a lush, verdant organic garden. The garden boasts nine raised Corten steel fruit and vegetable beds comprised of everything from pumpkins to pomegranates. A fully functional chicken coop completes the urban working farm environment. The main kitchen design from UK firm Plain English, is the same firm Prince Charles invited to design the kitchen for “The Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment’s Natural House Project”. Additional features of the property include a wine/cigar room, a secret storeroom and a full attic. The two-stall barn holds a tack room, bathroom, grooming stall and wash rack with hot and cold water, laundry room and loft.
