Nota, AIA, Architect :: Machine For Indoor/Outdoor Living :: Conceived as a single project consisting of three adjacent residences on a walk street five blocks from the beach, his first house completed combines an abstract, modern architectural vocabulary with warm hardwood floors, abundant natural light and patios open to the sky. A family-oriented program is organized vertically on three levels, with home office and entertainment room facing the outdoor deck at ground level, living, dining and kitchen in the middle, and bedrooms at the top to capture views. An understated entry leads in and up through a central steel stair that unifies the composition, while the steel trowelled exterior is softened by interior finishes like limestone slabs, maple floors and cherry cabinets. The architect's solution for this dwelling responds to the boundary conditions of the individual sites, ensuring privacy and access to light and views, while maximizing the enhanced outdoor living and social interaction provided by the walk street neighborhood.
